Zoom Stereo Microscope Assisted Surgery

The use of a zoom stereo-microscope to markedly magnify one’s field of vision during selected surgical excisions where tissue conservation is paramount within the field of dermatologic & Mohs surgery is briefly introduced.
The use of operating microscopes for delicate procedures is not novel to the fields of Dentistry, ENT, Neurosurgery, or Ophthalmology. However, in my research, I have not found such technology being used in either dermatologic surgery in general or Mohs micrographic surgery in specific.
Many of the operating microscopes that are currently being used in these other operating arenas as mentioned above tend to be rather cost prohibitive. The zoom stereo-microscope that I am introducing is relatively portable, very affordable, and allows the surgeon to sit upright in an ergonomically ideal position while performing surgery. I have performed approximately 60 procedures to date including selected Mohs surgical excisions while looking through a zoom stereo-microscope.
I will present a few representative cases that will serve to demonstrate how this simple technology can greatly improve one’s visualization, accuracy of excision, and confidence during delicate surgical procedures especially when working on or near the eyelids, lips, and nose.
