Zoe D. Draelos, MD, FAAD, Assumes Vice President-Elect Position of the American Academy of Dermatology

NEW ORLEANS (Feb 4, 2011) — Zoe D. Draelos, MD, FAAD, a High Point, N.C. dermatologist, took office today as vice president-elect of the American Academy of Dermatology (Academy), the world’s largest dermatologic society, representing more than 16,000 physicians specializing in the diagnosis and medical, surgical and cosmetic treatment of skin, hair and nails conditions.

Dr. Draelos assumed office at the conclusion of the Academy’s 69th Annual Meeting in New Orleans. She will hold office for one year and also will hold the same position for the American Academy of Dermatology Association. She will assume the office of vice president in 2012 at the conclusion of the Academy’s 70th Annual Meeting in San Diego.

In addition to maintaining a private practice, Dr. Draelos is a consulting professor of dermatology at Duke University School of Medicine, Durham, N.C. She earned a medical degree from the University of Arizona, Tucson. Dr. Draelos also completed her internal medicine internship and dermatology residency at the University of Arizona.

She is a past member of the Academy’s board of directors and the current chair of the council on communications. She also is chair of the Academy’s pamphlets editorial board and a member of several committees.

Dr. Draelos is editor-in-chief of the Journal of Cosmetic Dermatology. She has written eight dermatology textbooks, 32 book chapters, and more than 300 scientific articles. She has served as president of the North Carolina Dermatology Association and was a member of the board of directors of the American Society for Dermatologic Surgery.
